Eric J. Belt

Sr. Malacologist / GIS Coordinator

Mr. Belt joined ESI in August 2000. He has a B.S in Biology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he studied ecology and conservation biology. His previous experience includes GPS, habitat data collection, rare and endangered species, and report preparation, for the Missouri Botanical Garden. Since joining ESI, he has participated in over 100 unionid and macroinvertebrate sampling projects in more than 20 rivers and streams throughout the Midwestern United States. His primary roles include field survey malacologist/supervisor, project manager, and author of reports and proposals. His lab duties include sample processing and preparation of voucher specimens for donation to museums. Mr. Belt is also ESI’s office IT administrator and manages ESI’s GIS collection, database, and report map creation. He has completed training in both Pathfinder Office (GPS software) and ESRI ArcGIS. He is also EFR First Aid/CPR and DAN Oxygen First Aid trained, SCUBA certified (PADI Rescue DIver), and has tended divers on several projects. Mr. Belt is a member of the Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society and Society for Conservation Biology.
